Starry Print in the Arte Collection
Yellow and blue, circles and strokes. Umbi took an abstract approach to Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. In our interpretation, we focused more on the warmth of yellows rather than the turbulent blues of the original painting. Bright orbs were highlighted using various shades of yellow, giving the illusion of a sky filled with moons and stars. The Starry print is highly recommended to those who love to express themselves and never shy away from an opportunity to shine like a star.
Born on March 30, 1853, Vincent van Gogh was a post-Impressionist painter whose work — notable for its beauty, emotion and colour — highly influenced 20th-century art. Despite a tragic life, laden with struggles, Van Gogh left a legacy in the art world. If you would like to see and experience Vincent van Gogh's artworks with your little ones, we highly recommend a visit to the Van Gogh Alive exhibition at Pavilion Bukit Jalil from 17 December 2022 to 16 March 2023. Tickets to this family friendly event can be purchased at https://vangogh.com.my/.
Picasso Print in the Arte Collection
Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and theatre designer who spent most of his adult life in France. Also one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement.
At Umbi, we went all out embracing our inner cubism with the Picasso Print. Starting with a drawing of a house, parts of the drawing were broken up and reassembled in an abstracted form. We also went with bold colours, colour-blocking pink with navy blue adding a splash of fuchsia and lastly, topping it with chunks of white. The Picasso Print is for those with an artistic soul. There are no rules in fashion, be yourself! Picasso would be proud!
If you would like to draw like Pablo Picasso, grab a copy of this colouring book called Pablo Picasso to Colour In from Book Xcess. Accompanying each original image are line images to colour in, a short history of the painting and blank pages for your own sketches.
Monet Print in the Arte Collection
Throughout Claude Monet’s career, he painted approximately 250 oil paintings of water lilies. As nature lovers, we knew the Arte Collection would definitely include a print drawn from nature so we took the opportunity to take inspiration from Monet’s works.
The Monet print is serene yet compelling; it is demure yet confident. Petals of Soft Pink lilies dance amongst the calm Cerulean Blue waters and strong Dark Navy leaves. This perfect balance makes the Monet Print suitable for all genders, men and women, girls and boys.
For those who are interested to know more about Monet's works, we recommend an illustrated book called The Met Claude Monet: He Saw the World in Brilliant Light. Who knows, you might be inspired to become the next Monet.
